Kanu gets his new contract?

Quite what the actual number of games that it was that Kanu had to take part in to activate his contract extension is anyone's guess, the original thought was 20, then 25 but whatever the 'suggestion' now is that he has now done enough and he will be staying with us again next season.

Kanu is happy to stay with Pompey but does not want to be a bit part player but if all goes according to plan then I could see at least one new striker arrive this summer, and if this striker does arrive then starting regularly next season could be difficult for him? Well you would suspect anyway…

Kanu is a wonderful talent but for too much of this season I do not feel that he has been utilised as best he might have been, too often in my opinion has he been left on the pitch for far too long when a change could have seen more of an impact from someone off the bench, and not enough has he been used from the bench himself, but when he has he has more often than not made an impact - hence why I think he is best used that way.

Harry Redknapp clearly loves the fella and wants to keep him and from the looks of things, well according to 'reports' coming out anyway his new contract has been activity for next season. So unless he decides to move on it looks like he will be here again for another year.

Can we afford a motionless striker, did you actually see him run at Wembley. If you measure his decreasing lack of mobility this season, what next season?
007
007 - he has always played at that pace and signed his contract in good faith so is entitled to the extension. Winner at Wembley makes him a legend - winner in the final?
eastneydave
yes. he is good enough to play next season, and IF we get into europe, we will need the strongest squad we can get!
pompeycarpet
He will be a great squad player especially if Europe comes calling. He has respect & influence in football & that is worth having as part of the Pompey set up. Otherwise yes he is a giraffe on ice skates but his brain is faster than most peoples legs.
storagematt
eastneydave I agree he signed a contract in good faith. I am promoting debate, although of the landlords opinion that he should be used as a super sub.
007
I think he should be used from the bench. He adds something different but not as a starter. We need to sign another striker and i think send baros back. He has not cut it for me either. Where this cash will come from though i am not sure.
imazav
kanu and baros have both made massive impacts when they have come off the bench, but both fail to do anything when they start a game...hmmm
pompeycarpet
Give him a contract gladly I say, but use him properly, not as your main man from the beginning.
pompey4me
he'll start from the bench next season and 'should' make an impact when he comes on but im not sure he will be happy with this role for too long so 'if' things do work out that way he might look at the situation again in the january transfer window?
pompeyrug
yep he does really well coming off of the bench, and i think it was derby or sunderland, where he played what i think was his best game for us, and that was coming off of the bench. of course if we get into europe, then he has the experience of being there before, he won the champions league over ten years ago, when we were div 1! thats like someone saying "messi will play for colchester in ten years". if you look at it that way, having kanu for an extra year is always a good thing!
jbaker
yep i see him as super sub, oops sorry an "impact player" now, the days of him being a start every gane are gone Dave i think we can tell now when he is typical leggy, languid, laid back self and when he is just plain knackered,HR has been too loyal and along with Utaka he was something of a dead weight to be carried. I feel he would be good in the Uefa where the pace is normally somewhat slower but i doubt he can complete another full season.
russellm
I think you should keep him for one more season.
