Pompey not quite into Europe yet?

It could appear that the early thoughts that people had that Pompey have already qualified to go on a European tour were a touch premature… well at least if Michel Platini gets his way!

As the rules currently stand as Cardiff are members of the FAW - Football Association of Wales - and not the FA they would not be allowed to represent the FA in the uefa cup so the thought was that Pompey would qualify regardless of the result on May 17th, however Platini is not willing to let this matter go without a fight and has suddenly discovered that he has Welsh roots so he has 'pledged to help the club with their bid'. It is thought that he wants to allow them a 'wildcard' entry into the uefa cup if they won the cup, and if they did we would miss out.

The easiest thing for us to do is just go out and win the FA cup then no matter what Platini and his friends at uefa do it does not matter - we would be in!

I am not going into that game thinking 'we have already won', as that would be stupid and that kind of attitude would see us lose and probably rightfully so, but to be honest I am not thinking I reckon we might lose…

How a Frenchman can decide whether a Welsh team get to represent England in the UEFA Cup is ludicrous?! Cardiff are a nasty bunch of *****ers who don't deserve to represent a country they vilify so much. Regardless of it being at the expense of Portsmouth or not, I feel so strongly against this. It's a complete mockery of the system as this vile country and vile team/supporters shouldn't even be allowed to play in the English football league system.

Excuse my ignorance, but does the Football Association of Wales have an entry system to the uefa cup?

Platini welsh? is he having a laugh? There's obviously some Italian in him but where does the taffy kick in? Its not as if he's called Michel Daffyd Platini is it? I would like to challenge him to disclose what his Welsh roots actually are. Did he once buy a bunch of daffodils or go to a Max Boyce concert? I very much doubt it. i think he's telling a porky. Also if Cardiff are allowed to play in the English FA Cup and represent England in Europe then what is topping English clubs playing in the Welsh Cup and doing the same. having seen the standard of Welsh football i reckon I could raise a team of Vital Football subscribers that could win that competition.

the welshies wouldn't last 5 minutes in the uefa cup, but I am sure we will beat them anyway so it wont matter what pratini thinks about it.

Having heard how the Bluebird fans were being 'disrespectful' to Bobby Moore's statue yesterday and how they will hoot with derision through the national amthem at the Final; should they represent England? NO!!

The FA nominate their entries into European competitions in line with their own criteria. UEFA can add entries if they wish and ban clubs for disciplinary reasons but not reject entries surely? Or is the tail wagging the dog?

if uefa give them a wildcard entry, why does that mean we dont qulify? surely wildcard is in addition to. The welsh have there own places, which cardif could have got if they played in the welsh cup. they dont (as it sucks...), but they cant just go nicking our european spots. i wouldnt care if it were soutampton in the final not us, cardif still wouldnt be allowed the uefa spot!

When they were talking about the "wildcard" on MOTD2 last night, I distinctly got the impression that the wildcard would be in addition. Nevertheless, I agree that we can't go in believing we're entitled because Cardiff are Welsh. Go in with the wrong attitude and we we won't win. We have to go in believing we need to earn the right, and we will.

The Welsh FA have entry to UEFA but the Welsh Clubs that play in the English FA have an agreement with the Welsh FA that they won't claim a UEFA spot through the Welsh entry system. That is one of the reasons Cardiff are putting forward to try to claim the spot if they win the FA Cup. UEFA have been very vague on the wildcard. Assuming it is in addition to the Cup winners spot, where does the Cup winners spot get allocated to? The other finalist or the 6th place in the Premier league?

So from what you chaps say, the Welsh FA, enters the winner of the Welsh Cup, with Cardiff and Swansea having special arrangements and being excluded. So who will they enter, or more simply, who have they entered in the past.

As far as I know they never excercise their right to enter a team as none of the eligible teams have wanted to go.

NOW IS THE TIME TO STOP THIS ARGUMENT AND BAN CARDIFF, SWANSEA, AND WREXHAM FROM THE FA CUP!
