Crouchy to return to Pompey?

Peter Crouch has been linked with a return to Pompey several times over the years, and Harry Redknapp is known to be a very big fan of the big man.

The 'rumours' now are claiming that a deal has been agreed with Liverpool to see Crouch return to Fratton Park this summer in an £8m move from Liverpool. The People 'claims' that a 4 year contract worth £60,000 a week has already been agreed and he will return to the club when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

My thinking is that Crouch will leave Liverpool and I also believe that he could well return to Pompey, and to be honest although I know not everyone is a fan I would be happy to see him come back. Some fear a long ball game being used, but this is not what Crouch likes doing and in the main this is not our game either, he likes it to feet and we do that.

Although I like Milan Baros and he has worked hard, for me I am not convinced that I would want to sign him permanently now, particularly if it would take a fee of around £6m, in which case if we did have £8m I think I would prefer to see the extra couple of million coughed up and Crouch return in all honesty.

I suppose he's a younger Kanu with a bit more agility. If he joins I can see his partnership with Defoe being like the one he had with Mark Burchill.

agreed - Baros is not looking like what we need - off load him annd Nugent for Crouch and some big Nigerian and we'd look great!

Keep Nugent !!! Did no one notice the difference he made when he came on?? He should of scored at the end of the game and i only noticed on tv when i got home that as he went to strike the ball he was completely taken out. Not sure about Crouch but im not against it.

ok. im not a big fan of his. and i would be worried about a long ball game. BUT, against arsenal, he was the best player on the pitch, and really did look like a younger version of kanu. and considering he really hasn't played much this season, that makes it all the more impressive., if we can get him, then id say go for it...

I agree that we shouldn't be looking to pay a fee for Baros at the end of the season....after his miss against the Baggies I fear he will never score for us. Crouch would be a superb signing, and I feel he would compliment Defoe perfectly. Two strikers who are fringe members of the England squad....who'd have thought it?

Well it would be different for Harry to buy him for once instead of selling him! I am not convinced by the Giraffe - Look what happened to them lot down the road when they bought him.

The change in fans opinions is crazy. What happened to giving players a chance? All those games we gave Benjani? Baros worked his socks off on Saturday, if anything a little too hard. He ran Villa ragged the other week, changed the game at Utd and ran the channels beautifully against Chelsea. The problem I had with Baros on Saturday was although he was trying hard, he lacked confidence (same as Nugent) in front of goal. Also he's very much a second striker who creates space like Kanu does so unfortunately there was no one there with a killer finish to really kill West Brom off. He's worth a 3m/4m punt, easily.

Benjani was more of a threat though than Baros so we gave him time + we never expected more than benjani delivered, Baros did do a lot of running but looked slow when chasing 50/50 balls. I thought Nugent looked better than I have seen so maybe there was some truth in the hernia thing and there is more to come (cant believe I am saying this). I am happy with what Baros did in the Cup game and think he deserves a lot of credit for the goal and his general performance, but moving forward we can get someone better for the long term..... Crouch would be a very very good additino to the team and would work well with Defoe.

Sachas_Bro I agree about Baros. My son was raving about him for hours after and all the way home. He said that when we were not performing he ran and ran and tried to create openings with more confidence he would undoubtedly have been the hero. Europe next year and we will need a bigger squad - sign Crouch and keep Baros is my bet.

We need another striker. Baros isn't cutting it, for me, Kanu is knackered and I fear Nugent is running out of chances. Crouch would be a great choice - and I reckon Arry could get him. The fee may be too high though.

Baros isn't cutting it. He is trying hard but we need a striker that can score. Crouch would be a good choice.

Crouch would be a good signing for you. Harry can give him the confidence he needs like he did with Defoe.

harry and crouch ... reunited!!! he is one of harrys boys so when i saw in super goals in teh sun that crouch mite leave my immediate thought was that we might go for him! tbh im 5050 on it, he would provide teh strength to hold the ball up and pick out defoe! ... as for baros i like him but he really wasnt that good on saturday. he either ran too early (how many offsides) or was about 10 seconds too slow in the second half. 8 mil sounds like a lot though, and 60,000 per week???? we need to very sure here. and thirdly, is crouch african???? not that last time i looked! lol.

I hope we dont sign crouch, I can see him being a massive dissapointment. I mean he cannot even head a ball without fouling the defender, 8 million and 60 000 a week is waaaaaaaay to much for a lanky player who cant last 90 minutes, after all we do already have someone that meets that description according to many fans.....

I have been talking to journo rat mate about this and he thinks that this is not at all the done deal that the people say, crouch has he says noticed that others coming to portsmouth seem to quickly get back into their national squads. He says preliminary discussions have been held but crouch has reservations, so i guess it's the usual thing about Euro football, club's ambition, new stadium , training ground blah blah blah etc etc etc....

i am dissapointedly smug about Baros, i didnt welcome him and still dont think he is a patch on Benji so i would be quite happy to see him go. Perhapse the winning goal in the cup final might be a fitting send off, given his work rate, misguided or not.

i think nugent deserves thw winning goal more. tommorow is his big chance to shine (unless we go 4-5-1).

I do think Defoe needs a big fella up alongside him, and Crouchy would be perfect, you would think, but it depends who's going to go in order to finance him. If it means not signing Baros and saying buh-bye to Utaka, then so be it, but I remember all too clearly a comment Rug made a few weeks back about the possibility of us regretting selling Nugent if we sell him. I agreed then and I still agree now. If we're going to compete in the Premiership, let alone in the UEFA Cup (fingers crossed) then we need three good strikers and that means we can't afford to give Nugent up in order to bring a new one in. Just my 2 cents.

Did you see crouches goal last weekend? It was excellent. He would be an important signing for us. Making the last two cup goals means Baros is assured a place in Pompey history but he's taken too long to get up to speed in the prem (still not there) and I would only buy him if he was cheap or improved by the end of the season.

Crouchy returning would be the Burchill/Crouch dream ticket of a few years back, Burchills knee put paid to that, but for the couple of games they played it looked the part
