Davis - will he stay or will he go?

Sean Davis is about to enter into the final year of his contract, so he is naturally feeling a little uneasy about his future, which he does want to be at Fratton Park however.

Since Lassana Diarra arrived he has barely got a sniff - although he has also been injured, but in fairness to Diarra is there anyone at this club who would not be kept out by the Frenchman? He is good enough to keep most players at most clubs out of the team, or at least should be…

Davis got his chance last weekend and did a good job at Spurs I thought and he should retain his place this weekend, but he faces the heartbreak of missing out on next weekends semi final, if it is not for the fact that others come back in, it could be through suspension, as a booking this weekend will see him hit with a 2 game ban, starting next weekend.

My own thinking is that in the early months of the season Davis was in with a shout of getting the player of the season award, something I would have never expected just a few months prior, and in all honesty had he left last summer I would not have minded, however those thoughts soon changed. He has been unlucky with suspension and injuries in recent times, but his excursions in Spain probably did not help him either.

With a year of his contract to go there is no immediate panic to sort this out, but from his point of view you can appreciate that he does want some security. My thinking is that he will do well to get regular football, as when all are fit there are others ahead of him, and they will remain ahead of him virtually regardless it would seem unless they cannot play.

That said would I want him sold in the summer? I would say most certainly not, but if he will not get a contract extension here it would be likely that the club will cash in on him in the summer rather than lose him for nothing? I guess a lot depends on who does and does not leave Fratton Park this summer really - as well as who arrives …

this summer it will be a lottery to work out who stays and who goes ... could all depend on what (if any) euro comps we could be entering! cant see diarra wanting to stay here much longer if were "just" a mid table team... if thats the case davis may keep his place. saying that, i think there a lot of better mid players out there so i can see the club doing another "benjani" on us.

Davis is a good player, it always surprises me how quickly someone can go from being a regular to a bench player, but thats the way it is.

Pompey will be foolish to let him go, he will take one for the team any day of the week and will always give 110%...sign him up Blues!

I totally agree, Sean is a decent player who will fight for his place, and we need to have him around for a couple of seasons yet
Owenspompey
Seans form prior to his injury was outstanding, and it would be a damn shame for him not to get a new contract...however, would he be happy to sign on knowing that he'd most likely be kept as a backup player as things stand at the moment?
Tantona
He's more than welcome to come back to Fulham!! If we stay up we will take him off your hands!!
oranje_emu
Nice of you to say oranje, do you think you can stay up? Its been a real struggle this year for you, we met some Fulham fans in Hong Kong and they thought that Sanchez would get it wrong and it turns out that they were right.
Owenspompey
I remain optimistic!! I think Bolton and Brum are worst teams than us and Roy is a fantastic coach and has certainly done well since arriving. It has been a VERY disappointing. I had high hopes. New signings looked promising and despite my initial reaction to the Sanchez addition I thought he might prove an inspired choice how I was wrong. I must take my hat off to you for going all the way to Hong Kong, a real fan!!!

Davis has found out that like Mendes, if you slip out the reckoning it is a hard road back, I do feel he has upset someone upstairs, and as for a Fulham return, would he go back after the reception he gets at the Cottage?

Hope he stays, it's all about a squad, not a team, isnt it. We need to have players that can come in and 'hit the ground running' when needed.
pompey4me
i think today proved that he has what it takes to challenge diop for his place, and even muntari on his current form! davis was our key player in the first half of the season, keep him!

Going, going, nearly....
storagematt
I honestly think he will end up at Everton as a replacement for Carsley and Gravesen, it will be a shame as he is a decent player.
Owenspompey
he nearly went to everton in august, i think they will get him this time.
pompeysno.9
i've heard ac milan are interested
The Rabbi
