Redknapp on Spurs defeat

These are the thoughts that Harry Redknapp shared with sky sports after our defeat to Spurs yesterday: 'I thought we were terrific. I must be honest, with 10 minutes to go at 0-0, I thought it would be a great point.

'I thought they ran out of ideas a bit. But then we defended poorly and got punished.

'But the lads worked hard and showed a great attitude today.

'Six lads that would have played, didn't play. But the lads that came in did a good job.

'They are a good team Tottenham. They are full of good, quality players'.

Spurs always looked more threatening than we did and ultimately got the win that they probably deserved, but with the amount of regulars missing out that we did, we did well to hold on as long as we did - it is just a shame that we could not have held on a little longer.

Those that did come in yesterday however did themselves justice to be honest so we cannot have many arguments, or grievances there can we. We are almost there in terms of having enough quality to cope with a number of injuries and suspensions - hopefully this will be balanced in the summer…

doing a well deserved double against pompey is really satisfying. Redknapp comprehensively out thought by amazing Ramos. Wish you well in the cup semi's though.

Don't know about out thought, I believe if we could of fielded our strongest side we would of won, Pompey may say otherwise but their thoughts were elsewhere on the day.
paultsmouth
in a way he was out thought as had 'arry brought on baros with 30 minutes to play instead of 7 i reckon we would have won...
pompeyrug
Bros should have come on for Utaka early in second half. Other than that I thought with 10 to go we would hold out for a 0-0. Anyway, bigger London games to come.

baros must be used more

harry it is your fought you should of took kanu off for baros earlier get rid off kanu for martins

I was disappointed with how many Pompey fans left early after the double scoring. Yes I know it was freezing cold and kept snowing, and we never looked like scoring for a minute, but Pompey fans are supposed to get behind the team in times of adversity, not beggar off.

im not that keen on martins tbh, but do think that it is time for kanu to be moved on - i like the fella and all but he just cannot cut it to a level, and for a long enough level, anymore...

I was also very disappointed in Utaka - he has so much ability and pace but he just doesn't seem to bother. I'd rather have a player with less ability who gives his all than the other way around. How dare you pull on a Pompey shirt and not give 100%. Nugent may miss and fall over but at least he tries - I'd rather see him out there.
tracyc
He really is rubbish isnt he tracy! I havnt even seen this pace of his for a while! But, it's his attitude that gripes me!

Maybe i am getting this wrong lads and lasses, but i think this persevering with Kanu is rubbish. I dont think Harry gets a lot wrong, but Kanu is a luxury, maybe its not his fault but he is slow, not physical enough and he should have put the ball, the keeper and all the Spurs back 4 in the net with that header. Harry must leave him on the bench and go with Baro, Nugent and Defoe.
Owenspompey
Agreed Owenspompey. Utaka had the pace of a well fed alligator out there. His chief appeal when we got him was speed and without that there's not much point in him being out there. Kanu should be used off the bench and sparingly. He's still good for the last 20 mins or so of a game (on occasion) but it is a total waste keeping Baros on the bench and " the header " showed a completely timid lack of conviction. Nice guy, terrific player in his day, but not for the now.

'I thought they ran out of ideas a bit "......SO DID YOU MATE ! STOP OBSESSING ABOUT WHERE ON THE HIGH ROAD TO HAVE A PINT AFTER THE MATCH AND CONCENTRATE ON USING YOUR BENCH ! (Disclaimer: This comment is in no way an indictment of Harry Redknapp or his, at times, " devil may care " tactical approach to the game of football. Any inference to the contrary is entirely disclaimed as coincidental by the author :))
