Nugent returns tonight

Nugent returns tonight

Dave Nugent is making his Pompey return tonight, having been out injured since January - he will be starting alongside January signing Danijel Subotic against Arsenal at Westleigh Park. Sean Davis is also going to start in midfield.

Not since coming off against Plymouth at half time in our FA cup 4th round game, and subsequently having to undergo a groin operation, then apparently picking up some other kind of injury has he pulled on the Pompey shirt.

For a while it looked as though Nugent might not pull on the Pompey shirt again this season - if ever, as a loan move to Ipswich appeared likely, but this fell through… A possible loan move to Stoke was also abandoned this week, although West Brom are 'said' to be possibly interested in making a summer move for him should they go up?

If he can start banging in some goals in the reserves then you can never say never, but it is still looking a real uphill task for him to make inroads into the 1st team again this season, with the odd still looking more heavily stacked towards a summer exit?

His best chance of 1st team football again this season appears to be in the FA cup - what price a Nugent winning goal in the cup final, assuming we get there of course…

Does anyone know what time KO is? I suppose I could go and look it up but I am feeling a bit lazy. I wouldn't mind seeing how Nugent and Subotic play together.

Whatever the long term plans for Nugent, the short term means we need him as back up. He may even get a place on the bench for the cup games. ( and a winners medal too).

Good luck Nugget. The more fit players we have the better at this time.

Sorry Rug I didn't make it - didn't get out of work until late, and really felt too tired to try rushing there. Didn't sound like I missed much though. Nugent missing a couple of chances early on then Arsenal dominating the second half.

Not good news that Davis picked up a yellow - that now means he is one away from a two match ban, which would include the semi at this raate.

Davis went off injured lads didnt he? That could be a blow for our season if it is serious.

davis will almost cerainly be sold in the summer after his fall out with harry so i doubt he would have played much anyway.
