No 3pm kick off in April!

Our home league meeting with Newcastle was scheduled for a 3pm kick off on Saturday 12th April, and this was going to be the only Saturday 3pm kick off we would have had in April, but this has now been changed to 5.15pm so it can be shown live on setanta sports.

West Ham, originally scheduled for 5th was a 3pm kick off but that was switched to the Monday due to works taking place on the train tracks in London, it was also then going to be shown live on setanta sports, but due to the FA cup semi final with West Brom, now taking place on Saturday 5th with a 12.15pm kick off this West Ham game has again been cancelled…

Newcastle, as we now know has been changed for the TV cameras - Man City the following week, 19th April has been switched from a 3pm Saturday kick off to a 4pm kick off on the Sunday, 20th, so it can be shown live on sky sports - either way I am making the long trek to this game though.

The final game of that month, Blackburn at home was meant to take place on Saturday 26th April 3pm, but has been switch to Sunday 27th also for sky sports coverage with a 1.30pm kick off time.

So there we have it, we will have a whole month of fixtures live on the box - assuming West Ham is rescheduled for some time in April - without a single 3pm Saturday afternoon kick off time, criminal isn't it…

I know how you feel we have had only THREE 3.00 p.m. Saturday kick-offs at home all season. Sky have a lot to answer for.

The Aussie supporters get 1 or 2am Sunday kickoff for the games don't complain until you have to be at the ground early AM.
frattonaussie
Aussie I am sure early morning kick offs will be here soon when the Chinese start paying big Yuan for pay per view. Criminal.

im not not being funny FA football is played in england tho isnt it so the times should be accomodating us not a world wide audience, which seems to be the way the game is going more and more... sounds harsh but i think we have a right to be disgruntled dont we, football is meant to be a 3pm thing on a saturday, but its going more and more away from this - why not just pass a law that means 3pm games can be shown on tv, if people then want to watch them on the box instead of going they can - i know i would choose going everytime... granted some dont have a choice, but tv shouldnt be ruling the roost in my own opinion...

The price of fame. Everyone wants to see Pompey. Should we moan or accept it? When we ere in Scum's position, wrong end of Div 1, no-one knew who we were. No we are at the whim of TV Gods that dictate our lives.

I don't understand the logic of not showing 3pm games live on TV anyway. Especially when they're all on the internet or in the pub.
tracyc
true tracy c - i try to watch all our games in some form or another - but why can some other (preferably free!!!) chanel not show the games that sky/setanta do not want to show at 3pm. all those games happen so frequently, so many people want to watch them - but we cant get tickets, and they arnt being shown legaly...so some of us turn to...less than legal sites that show them. surely it would be better to show more 3pm games?

^above post makes pretty much no sence whatso ever...

I just want our games televised, it means we are in the Premiership and people want to see us. The price of success is that the kick off times have to change, who cares as long as we are winning, the journey from Liverpool to Pompey and back is a long and winding road, hey i sense a song coming on!!
Owenspompey
Owens, I still cant believe you do that trip to every game! I was shattered driving to Old Trafford. So much so I had to stay another night!
pompey4me
sorry, i have just realised my previous 2 posts apeared i the wrong order... so please dont take offence tracyc ;-)

You have to go with the changes. 1. The clubs want the money from TV to buy better players which the fans want. No TV no players. 2. The TV stations have a right to earn a profit. More viewers, more profit, more money for the clubs. 3. If you think tradition is so important then why have, and support, Sunday games, evening games etc. They were never part of original foortball. 3. Why have the Carling Cup, that was a break from tradition to bring in more money and to satisfy lower league clubs. I can go on and on along this vein of breaking tradition. What about supporters who for work or other commitments can't get to 3pm starts but can get to 12 noon starts.Aren't they important? I realise that because I live in Australia I am going to have inconvenient start times for many sports but to carry on because a time has been changed a few hours is petty beyond belief.

Dont bother me all that much.

You get used to it carpet, and the four of us who do it have been doing it for so long we are immune to it, i wish we could find more supporters and run a coach, but the Northern Blues fan club is based in Hereford, how does that work!! However the train can be a different way to get there especially when they are offering deals for the weekend, and we have even flown into Eastleigh(spit) and Bournmouth on occasion. I agree though Sunday has to become a day of rest!! or Monday. The last couple of seasons we have all said that all the travellling has been worth it, and all the money spent could have been wasted on something other than football like our wives, please dont tell them we said that, mind you they did get to go to Hong Kong.
