Johnson the main man v United

Glen Johnson was the star performer for Pompey against United, not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I do agree with, if one had to be singled out…

It was hard to single anyone out from that fantastic win at Old Trafford as pretty much everyone was outstanding, players, management and fans - everyone… but Johnson put in a hell of a shift, even more so when you consider that John Utaka offered him little help on the right, defensively or offensively!

The one player that I was most pleased for would have been Sol Campbell who was immense compared to how he had been in recent weeks, maybe even months. His positional sense was as good as ever, and unlike many a time recently this was not the decisive factor in bailing him, or us out.

What the poll asked - Man of the match against United?

How you voted - Glen Johnson 48%, Lassana Diarra 17%, Sol Campbell 11%, David James 7%, Niko Kranjcar (81) 7 %, Sylvain Distin 5%, Sub - Milan Baros (54) 4%, Sulley Muntari 1%, Hermann Hreidarsson 0%, Papa Bouba Diop 0%, John Utaka (74) 0%, Kanu (54) 0%, Sub - Lauren (74) 0%, Sub - Richard Hughes (81) 0%

Current Poll - Benjani has gone, this has to be accepted, some have more than others but the simple truth it he is gone. He appears wasted at Citeh, so many are even hoping he 'might' return…

Benjani looks such a different player at Citeh, he is not being used in the right way at all, which is making him look a bad player, but can he ever return to Pompey - this is what pompeysno.9 wants to know with this - 'Will Benjani play for us again one day?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Fantastic performance from nearly all, although Sol's performance was neigh on world class, you could tell from his rection at the whistle what it meant to him, it was like he'd won the champions league!

Would'nt it be lovely to shut the scum up, and stop their carping of 76, they'd even be tearing down their tatty copies of the celebratory pink echo down from their grubby bedroom walls!......

The scum must be going through hell. it would be great to win the cup and shut them up for a few years wouldnt it. Glen was one of about 14 stars on Saturday, now they need to do it against Birmingham tomorrow night, 3 more points woud be fantastic, lets hope their minds are back on the job in hand.

I voted Jonno, think he has been magnificent this year, I am pleased to say because I was gutted when we re-signed him, due to his performances at the end of last year. Against Utd, he was fantastic.....wonder why we dont have a chant for him?

Kept us in the tie with his goal line clearance but it probably wasn't as significant as Distin's clearance.

Give him back!!! :P Great performance from him - although I'll never understand why Chelsea let him go, it's good to see him playing and playing well.

I didn't vote in the poll because I don't want to single out one player as the best or worse. They all did well as a team even though some of you have a down on Utaka. If the whole team hadn't played well then we would have lost. You don't win against Man U with only 10 men playing well.

Well, we did saturday.

And what will you say if he comes on against Brum and scores, plays well and we lose. Oh but he had a bad game on Saturday that was why we lost today. Give the guy a break.

I went with Jonno, he is becoming as cultured as we know he can be, when he gets wide right and pushing toward midfield, you know he can carry the ball

ummm, read my earlier post aussie, if he has a good game tonight, i'll be the first to say so, but the fact is he was poor against manu, and has been poor all season after a couple of good games early on. We all have our opinions, you dont like 'arry and have made it painfully obvious. I dont dislike Utaka, just telling you straight fact, he's a lazy player and was very poor at old trafford.

The poll results don't lie do they, he had fantastic game and has had a really good season so far. Another England call-up must surely be on the horizon.

my thoughts on utaka are not based only on the old trafford game when - seeing the whole picture lets not forget - he appeared to be strolling around as if it was pre season, not a quarter final of the fa cup... utaka's best games came early in the season, on the whole i honestly feel he has been poor from october, november time onwards... i hope the fella comes good, i really do and if he does score tonight i will be delighted, but it will not make up for his form in recent months, yep it will mend a bridge but he will have a few more to mend between now and may for me...

as for johnson, i too wasnt keen on him returning - i openly admitted this, but said he would be given a fair crack of the whip and he has been fantastic, had a few downers but many, many more pluses than minuses...

Utaka is a vey frustrating player. If only he put the effort he would scare the pants off opposition defenders. Think we need an out and out right winger and give Utaka a go down the middle at some point.

I thought Johnno was excellent, so was Distin, and Campbell and . . . I do have my doubts about Utaka though, he has great potential, when is he going to live up to it?

Re Utaka guys, I am pro him as you know and I've noticed a distinct lack of support for him compared to the very vocal support for Nugent. I don't understand that, Utaka comes in fits and spurts but Nugent needs a serious dose of Viagra. Let's try and be a bit more balanced eh? Ok Utaka may not be perfect but he has contributed and will contribut more before the season ends. And yep he may well be gone next season. So be it, if Harry can sell our best player then nonody's safe,

frattonaussie your input and knowledge are of the highest order, but mention of a hidden agenda does not help your cause. Following saturday is not the time to discuss the subject matter, for obvious reasons. The seasons end is the time, when many matters will become clearer.

utaka has such amazing potential if he could be bothered - that is why people are not so positive about him. Nugent has great potential, and seems to be working hard towards it - hence we like that. the problem with utaka, is he wants to be like kanu to much. he seems to try to sit back, hold the ball up, and try nice passing - which just isnt him! he needs to get running behind players, run quickly with the ball, and run the ball out of the defence...mostly, he just needs to run more.

'Carpet, come on help me out here, I just don't see what Nugent has to offer based on his track record. You say he has great potential but based on what? I am a forceful skeptic by natue but am willing to change my view but it needs to be based on some reasonable evidence ..
