'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bring on the Albion

Wembley, Wembley, we're the famous Portsmouth City and we're off to Wembley… and we now know who our semi final opponents - yep semi final! - will be.

Standing between us and an FA cup final appearance, and a return to Wembley a month later are West Brom. Obviously Barnsley face Cardiff in the other semi.

If anyone tells you that we have it easy to win the cup they are a fool, we are not guaranteed of anything, and taking it for granted would see us lose… but of course we will probably never, ever have a better chance than this again to win the greatest cup competition in the world - we must take this now, and as I keep saying 'our name is on the cup this season', so I am not changing my mind now.

I will be going to Wembley, unless the gods conspire against me in the cruellest of possible twists of fates looking - not expecting - to be making this journey again a month or so later!

Saturday 5th, or Sunday 6th April 2008 are the dates for the diary fellas, those that can make it, and deserve to go will be desperate to get there, I just hope those that are able to make it and truly deserve to make it do get the tickets to share in this unbelievable experience.

Some muppet said the FA cup 'died' over the weekend, but tell that to the fans off all the teams left in the cup who will be clambering for tickets for these semi finals, I can almost guarantee that we would be able to easily sell our allocation twice over, as said though I just pray that those who truly deserve the tickets get them…

I am on record from before the 6th round draw saying that I wanted to avoid WBA, but we shouldn't worry too much, WBA are best at home and we are best away... and the semi is after all an away match.
Hardest draw you could of had, you should cruise to the cup from here, teams like cardiff and barnsley can't reapeat performances all the way. If you don't win the cup from here, you'll never win it!
in all honesty i would have rather avoided west brom but we can do them - we shouldnt fear anyone should we...
we have no one to fear but ourselves..if we are up for it then no one can touch us it all depends on what pompey team turns up and if harry can motivate them..the likes of Utaka and Kanu take note!!
PunchFunk Blue
Guys, as long as the team remain focussed, there is no need to panic. We can beat west brom, but this should never be taken for granted, it's all about siezing the moment, Destiny in our own hands. Is teh semi do or die on one day now, or does it still go to replays?
PFB, Kanu didnt need motivating Saturday, he was as good as i've seen him in a pompey shirt. More of the same please Mr Kanu.
Didnt want ManUtd and beat them, didn't want WBA but will beat them. Pompey V Cardiff final.
Only team I did not want was Barnsley bizarrely! Come on the mighty Pompey!
P4me..trouble is getting that regularly.. play 451 as we do best and bully them out of it in the middle of the park.. and how crucial could nugent be now hes stayed? hes a proven scorer against this sort of opposition
PunchFunk Blue
Anyone that makes the last 4 does so by merit, anyone can win on the day, if we play to our potential we will win. If we play to our potential in the final we will win. It is as simple as that.
Question: If we beat WBA and Cardiff beat Barnsley, does that mean we automatically qualify for the UEFA Cup before the final is even played out? Because Cardiff can't play in the UEFA Cup.
west brom wont be able to stop us for 90 minuites, im pretty confident we can win this, the final will be easier than this, if we lose it will be an embaresment.
I'd rather play WBA in the Semis than meet them in the final. I've got a good feeling that the boys will show up at Wembley and put us in the final. West Brom should certainly have their spells but let's not forget how difficult it is to break us down. PUP.
The team pretty much picks itself guys, apart from left back. Thoughts on that one considering WBA are pretty potent?
Just noticed that Brom are the only team not to have faced a Prem team so far, they are also top scorers in this years competition!
they have only scored so many goals because they have played low league opposition, we're in a different class to sides like peterborough and bristol who they beat to get to the semis.
Still scored 16! 1 replay in that though, but you are right, we should be a class above those sides.
They scored 5 against Bristol Rovers though not really United. They are a tough team but we should be able to out class them. And yeh if Cardiff get to the final with us we will get the UEFA space before we kick off. PUP!
dnt forget we have served a 3 team championship rounds 3,4,5 apprenticeship and then got our masters at Old Trafford on Saturday
good luck - I hope you lot win it. I can't belive the caution on here.. You gota be able to beat west Brom right? Great to see the "big" clubs all missing out... not as good as they think they are..
The Tailor
PhilTaglia 'when' not 'if' :-) we beat west brom, if cardiff make the final we will indeed be into the uefa cup whatever happens, cardiff cant go forward as an english representative... but im not even considering losing in the final should we make it...
hello PunchFunk Blue, your a newbie to the site i think as i aint seen you before - welcome aboard :-) tbh pompey4me, altho i wouldnt say kanu was poor on saturday i didnt think he was particularly good...
I thought he did more than normal, and the ball does stick to the fella, granted as long as it's put to him, not even 6 inches either side lol. Watched the game back, and actually saw him chasing manure players down. I also liked the fact that 'arry subded him much earlier in the game than normal.
Yeah he just needed Defoe to run on the balls he was holding up. Baros did give us that extra something though. Top marks to Harry.
The hardest of the 3 but I doubt if they wanted ius either. Still it's better than Chelsea in the semis?
We are capable of beating anyone in this competition, we can go into this game and really give it a go. I can see Nico and Utaka tearing them apart down the flanks, and Lassina battering them up the middle with Sulley smashing one home past Dean 'i kept Pompey up singlehanded' Kiely Get in there lads, we can be back in May.
last time we beat preston in the cup, we won it. last time we beat west brom in the cup, we won it. last time west brom beat us in the cup, they won it. certainly an intresting draw! The team i wanted was cardif...although i guess we will have to beat west brom at some stage if we want to win it, and if cardif can beat barnsley (IF), and we beat westbrom (IF), then i will be happy.
Apparently we are going to get 33,000 tickets priced £25 to £55. 33,000 Pompey fans in one place. Imagine how good that will be!!!
Pompey Half Pint
Just think of all those United fans in London with nothing to do on semi-final day. When are they making the decision on who plays on what day Dave?
probably the toughest of the teams left, a free scoring side but one who concede! Good luck anyway!
could be worse really...£25 a ticket...ill take that... dont care if its saturday or sunday - ill do my best to be there!
Of course I knew we would get West Brom. When there are 3 sides left we will ALWAYS get the hardest one - just like Liverpool back in '92. Still on the positive side if we get to the Final I think we will win comfortably.
albion are free scoring but when our defence is on song there are not many better, so i doubt they have come across a defence as good as ours can be so far this season have they... it wont be easy but we can do this, i want david 'hollywood keeper' james to show dean 'im not bitter' kiely exactly why he wasnt kept, i didnt rate the fella anyway tbh...
if utaka can be bothered then he could rip the baggies defence to shreds, but he couldnt really be bothered against united could he, he will have a few more chances between now and may, but if he doesnt take them then i could see him being shown the door in the summer tbh...
i think he is a good prospect once he has had a season under his belt. talking about good prospects, songo'o had a great game at the weekend for shefield wednesday...well, i say great game, i actually mean great second half...but once again, the same complaint - he needs to toughen up!
I lost my voice at Old Trafford shouting at Utaka the lazy ********. Made Johnson's performance even more remarkable when you think he was defending for two! Utaka had so much space in front of him, but looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.
I'll defend Utaka. He was made to look worse than he was by Muntari and Diarra who both had great games. Also he hasn't started for a long time so he was lacking in touch because of it. He'll be OK.
Defend him all you want Aussie, the tv may not have picked up just how bad he was. He either couldnt be bothered, or didnt know how to play on the right. Time after time, Kanu dropped to pick the ball up and Utaka should have been on his toes down the touchline to give him an outlet, but he just never moved, 3800 fans cant be wrong!
im with you p4me he didnt seem to have any interest at all in the game, i couldnt believe the amount of times he litterally just stood there - that is the beauty about being at a game that i love so much, you see the whole picture dont you that you cannot always see on the box... as said, many more showing like this, which lets be honest are not unusual and he'll be shown the door in the summer...
I'll still back him to shine next game
Our league form should be interesting between now & the semi. Wrap a few players up in cotton wool!!!
Well Aussie, he hasnt shined since the first 2 games of the season, so I doubt he'll shine in th enext few games. If he does, however, I'll be the first to admit so.
utaka never ran into the space. every time he got the ball, i wanted him to run with it, every time kanu got the ball, there was a gaping space behind there left back, that i wanted him to run into. he never did.
Thats what I said earlier Carps....why oh why he never ran I dont know.
