Diarra - we must make it count

Diarra - we must make it count

Lassana Diarra has said what we are all thinking, and what we all know is true, as fantastic as the quarter final win over United at Old Trafford was it will count for nothing really if we do not go all the way now - we will possibly never have a better chance…

We can, and have basked in the glory, and rightly so but now - although I am not saying this is a gimmie, as it certainly is not - as Diarra said we must finish the job: 'I don't want to talk about it being one of my most memorable wins.

'Let's speak about this if we have won the competition. I don't want to go to Wembley and lose.

'I'm very happy and proud and it is good to beat United, but we have to stay focused and make sure we win the competition now.

'Of course we can win the FA Cup. If we can beat Manchester United, we can win the competition.

'It would be a waste of this famous victory if we didn't go and reach the final and lift the trophy. We must finish the job'.

Diarra - along with everyone else in all fairness - was fantastic again at Old Trafford, he truly is a world class performer. At this point in time we have to enjoy it while it last, we cannot be worrying too much about him possibly leaving in the summer but maybe, just maybe he has offered a glimmer of hope to suggest that he will stay here next season? He went on to say: 'I'm very happy to be here. I'm playing every week now and I'm enjoying my football.

'I can get better of course. The best is yet to come from me.

'I feel very comfortable on the field and that is largely down to the manager who gives me confidence.

'Everyone at Portsmouth has tried to help me settle in and that is why I feel so comfortable out on the pitch'.

Who knows what will happen, but I would think that winning the FA cup could quite possibly convince him and a few others that staying here for at least another season is a good way to go… For the best of his career I really do think staying here next season will do him - and of course us - the world of good.

He's completely right, it would be a travesty if we came this far and lost now. We will never have a better chance than this, we've done the hard part, but bigger clubs have lost to the Championship sides that are still in the competition, and we must respect them and go for the jugular. We can do it though, we really can!

Blimey! I can't believe we've gone from 12-1 outsiders to favourites in the space of a weekend. Its in our hands now, it really is. He sounds liek a sensible chap, Diarra, and he's right, if we can do Utd, we can do anyone - so long as we focus.

Out of the other 3 teams, West Brom are probably the best side left in other than ourselves. Just as well we got them then!

sounds like lassie has no intentions of leaving soon!

I tell you what, we win this pot and make Europe, and the Littlest Hobo will NOT go anywhere!

so i was not alone in my thinking of this - i worried i was 'reading between the lines' too much...

Now or never. Imagine, we win the cup, look at who we could attract in the summer. It might even help change the minds of the nimbies about us building a ground & training facility.

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!
