Distin hits back at whinging Ronaldo

Fergie, Carlos Queiroz and Cristiano Ronaldo have all been very outspoken about the 'grievances' they feel the suffered at the weekend, with Ronaldo saying: 'sometimes I say this is the best league in the world, but sometimes they don't protect the skilful players.

'After what happened to the Arsenal player Eduardo da Silva, I am scared to do my skills.

'The referee against Portsmouth was unbelievable. In the first five minutes, there were three fouls and he took no action and then he failed to give a penalty. It's difficult to play like this.

'It's a joke. So often, there were fouls and the referee did nothing'.

Of course he - and the others that are whinging - is right, how dare anyone, particularly 'the little Portsmouth' go to Old Trafford and prevent him, and United as a whole ripping the opponents to shreds, we should be ashamed of ourselves!

As for giving nothing, come on how often was he, and United overall being given things?

We ruffled them be getting in their faces, they did not like that, something which we have been guilty of not doing enough against them at Old Trafford before, we are usually too nice and pay far too much respect to them - at our cost.

The thing that goes against Ronaldo mostly is his diving, which granted is not as bad as it was, but he does not help himself does he? Those that have a 'history' of this type of thing can often see a case of 'crying wolf' once to often go against them.

It appears quite clear that Ronaldo seems to share Sepp Blatter's thoughts that football should basically be a 'non contact' sport…

Sylvain Distin however has hit back at Ronaldo's claims by telling The News: 'if every time you touch a player it is a penalty, then how do you defend?

'Football has to have some contact. I don't think he pushed the ball past me and I moved my body to stop his run.

'He pushed the ball, I followed the ball and it was shoulder against shoulder. If you can't tackle from behind, you can't do this, you can't do that, then you never defend.

'If he is coming towards me one against one, I am not going to move out of the way for him.

'I try to defend. All of the United fans thought it was a penalty, all of the Portsmouth fans and me will think it's not.

'For me, it was fair.'

You have 'seen them given', but I think Distin is basically right - all United fans think is was a penalty, all Pompey fans think not.

I have seen it several times now, as I say I have seen them given, really it is one of those that you are happy to get but feel aggrieved if it goes against you - some more aggrieved than others…

Man utd and their 'fans' are the worst losers i've ever seen, whats wrong with having a little grumble then saying well done? As for Ronaldo, if he stopped his hystrionocs he could be quite good you know!

Guys, I am may be unpopular here but the Distin challenge was a bit ott, in saying that the ref had more to consider on such an occasion that awarding United yet another penalty so early on. Same goes for the Rooney lunge - he was lucky to stay on. All in all both sides have reasons to question the ref but the worrying thing for me is that SAF is relying on a single incident to define the outcome of the match. For ****s sake, it wasn't so long ago that Roy Keane was hacking everybody to bits -

Chris, i know you mentioned it, but Rooneys was by far the worst tackle in the game, but Fergie dont mention that one!! If he'd connected there could have been serious injury, unlike a little push on poor old Ronnie baby.

true buddy, true

Ron is such a princess its untrue. Its a mans game after all. Ahh did the nasty man push poor baby over???? And yes I agree the only dangerous tackle in the game was Roonie's, it could have been another Eduardo if he'd caught Nico slightly more. The penalty I think is one of those close decisions, the ref made his decision - every team gets these for and against over the course of the season. At the end of the day, Utd had plenty of chances to put the ball in our net and didn't/couldn't take any of them. So they have nobody to blame but themselves.

well said Tracy, btw don't forget Rug owes you a chinky if we win!!
10/03/2008 13:24:00
I think Distin's challenge was a penalty. But so what? Refs often get those close decisions wrong. Man U should just get up dust themselves down and have another go. That's what mere mortal clubs like Portsmouth have to do. On the day we had luck - but you make your own luck - and we deserved it because of a clear game plan which we stuck to and delivered through heroic, determined performances from every single player.

Fergie and co expect penalties every week at the theatre of screams. They are trying to bully the next ref into giving the next 50/50 decision in their favour. Every team gets decisions for and against which are wrong. The refs aren't robots. At least Chelsea were gracious in their loss even though the team was a division below.
10/03/2008 13:51:00
Whiners indeed. You should never EXPECT to win and should always be humble when defeated. Alex Ferguson is a prat who whines whevever they lose and for whatever reason. Like Distin said, football is a contacts sport. Maybe Christina Ronaldo would be more comfortable in Spain, Portugal, Italy, or S. America where you get artistic merit marks for diving.

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
