Songo'o joins Wednesday on loan

Franck Songo'o has joined Wednesday on a month long loan deal, and will be hoping that his spell in the championship proves better at Hillsborough than it did Selhurst Park with Palace earlier in the season - although the early signs from what I saw were very promising, things just did not work out in the end.

Songo'o came here from Barcelona under Alain Perrin, and although he has not really been given a go by Harry Redknapp the fact that he has kept him, despite my thoughts that he might not be 'one of 'arry's boys' is giving a glimmer of hope to me that he could have something about him that makes him want to keep him - if not he would have been released, or sold by now wouldn't he?

You cannot really judge too much from pre season or reserve football but whenever I have seen him in pre season he has looked good, he can play on either flank, has skill and pace, maybe his delivery lets him down, but he knows how to score! He appears to have been at the heart of most things in the reserves recently too.

Apart from costing around £7m less, and being some 4 or 5 years younger I cannot see that there would have been much difference between him and John Utaka at present to be honest, and do not feel that Songo'o would have made any less of an impression than he has on the whole - had he been given the run the Nigerian has…

I guess all we can do is just see how this loan goes, it will be good for him to get some 1st team football, and at the level he is at it 'should' also toughen him up, which could be one of the things that he is lacking?

This summer will probably make or break him, if we keep him again for next season then surely this means he has a long term future and will feature, unless he is on such good money - which I would doubt, but you never know with Pompey - we cannot afford to pay it up and need to wait for his deal to end…

songo'o is a brilliant player in the reserves and is just as quick as utaka i would say, but this is harry's weakness, because perrin ( a good manager if he is given a lot of money to spend) had signed him i doubt we will ever see him again, so we spent 7 million on utaka when we didnt really need to. I hope i am proved wrong and he returns to feature in the team next season. Whats happened to Drunkard Duffy i wonder?

as said ive often thought 'the perrin factor' was held against songo'o - as 'arry didnt sign him he doesnt want to use him... but he is the only one that he has kept, so there must be some reason - i maintain that you do not start out at barca alongside some players that are now world class and playing in the premier league if you are 'not all that', granted this early promise needs to be developed but i do like the look of songo'o...

songo'o was in the same youth team as eto'o , he must be worth a try.

Maybe Songo'o will come back and play - but I doubt it. HR rarely changes his mind.

why isnt he playing - is it because he wasnt signed by 'arry? is it because he isnt good enough? is it because he is 'too young'? or is it a combination of alot of things? why have we kept him so long tho, when others have gone...

songo'o wasnt good enough for crystol palace. i dont know what the fuss is about??? he is a fantastic prospect for sure, but he needs to toughen up, and he needs first team practice. when he is ready, harry will play him, but with crystol palace saying that he isnt good enough, and dropping him after his first game, he has a lot to make up.

Sounds like he's got some fans down at Pompey? Hope he does well for us and we can help him toughen up a bit. At least he'll learn what it's like to lose with us...though hopefully not too many times. Looking forward to seeing him power in some crosses for Sahar to get on the end of tomorrow!

he is a quality player with bags of talent - its just that he isnt ready for the premier league yet, and his previous loan only prooved that.

It's always better than the reserves, good luck to him.

I have nothing against him but he has seemed a bit lightweight and immature in his play at this stage of his life to be a good EPL player. Maybe in a couple of years he will be OK but who knows.
