Redknapp on Everton defeat

Harry Redknapp told sky sports after our defeat to Everton at the weekend that he thought 'we did not deserve to be on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat' - I cannot agree with him to be honest: 'we started badly, but I couldn't see them winning after an hour.

'I felt we got control of the game after that initial start, passed the ball great, and got back into the game. I really felt that at half-time we would go on and win the game.

'I felt in the last 15 minutes of the first half we had got stronger and stronger. I felt we passed the ball great and if we continued to play in that way that we would go on and win the game and be positive and that's what we tried to do.

'But I felt that we maybe pushed forward too much and started to get done on the counter-attack.

'But I could see the game at that stage as a banker 1-1. I felt that suddenly we had lost that bit of impetus 20 minutes into the second half and I could see it fizzling out to a 1-1 draw'.

Basically the better team won, yep we did have our moments but we failed to capitalise when we were on top for a period, we never once forced Tim Howard into a save, and rarely looked like creating a clear cut opening...

Where was the game won and lost?

In all honesty we have not played well for months on the whole - I will get into this more with something else later in the week - but I feel tactically is where we lost this as David Moyes clearly won this battle, his tactical change really did win them the game, the change that Redknapp made had no impact at all - had it come earlier, or maybe even been different to start with maybe it would have been different...

Redknapp went on to add: 'Johnson came on and they played balls into the channels. I felt that we got pushed forward at full-back, left holes, and left ourselves two against two too easy at the back and we had a problem.

'When they made it 2-1 then what can do you do?' he said.

'Suddenly the momentum is back with them and we're trying to push forward to try and get back in the game

'I brought John Utaka on to play wide right and opened ourselves up again, but that's how it goes.

'Overall we're not too disappointed and I felt that we played well enough to have got something out of the game'.

To be honest, as I say I think we got what we deserved overall, which was nothing, and an improvment is needed, and fast - we have played badly for far too long now...

Harry would you like to start an umbrella business? You put one up to stop the ***** falling on your head and then dish the bull***** out to the media and supporters so we all need to buy one. At least Paul Jewell say the team was crap, the players were crap and we didn't deserve to win when Derby play badly. We were beaten by a better team, it's as simple as that.

Luckily for HR West Ham are playing poorly too and Spurs are a long way behind and the Toons have got themselves in a Keegan induced slump. If that wasn't the case we'd be running 12th right now and...

Yes poor game and it really is about time we put Sol Campbell out to pasture, many of the teams now know that if you can isolate campbell with anyone slightly faster than a snail then you are quids in for scoring!

Harry oh Harry comments like 'we had lost that bit of impetus 20 minutes into the second half and I could see it fizzling out to a 1-1 draw'... Then why didn't you change this a little like Moyes did. the johnson subsitution turned the game and although they were the better side until he came on and gave new impetus to their attack the game was there for the taking. Andy Gray commented that we could count the number of time the commentator mentioned Defoe or Kanu on one hand .. I could see it, he could see it, and obviously Harry did... HR comments aside (he's the boss and he can say what he likes in all honesty - it's his view that counts). I think that one the last two or three games we are not good enough to get 6th the tp five will be the top five as of now ..maybe in a different order and I think Villa will snatch the 6th place with Pompey and Man city falling away, blackburn look the stonger team (well from results they get point of view) to grab 7th.. I reckon we'll be 8th or 9th unless we pull our socks up and really get a good run going.. Starting with a result next week to give us the thought of wembley and make the players fight for places ... especailly Muntari & Diop in the middle

As an aside, I thought the sky commentary was appalling - they spent huge tracts of time talkiing about stuff other than the match and Andy Grey is the worse commentor on the box when it comes to changing his opinion half way through a match. Next time you watch one if his matches keep track of his tactical comments - he's forever changing his tune 30 seconds after a team scores. Very Orwellian is Mr Grey.

I was furious when i heard this interview. This was a classic 6 pointer that we had to win. When they brought on another striker, we didnt match them. Instead we left kanu to get more knackered with no thought for the fact yhe has to face United next weekend and fergie rested Rooney and Ronaldo for half of that match! 1:1 draw was a banker? What harry - would you have been happy with that, did you never wnat the win? What b*ll*cks - I thiink more likely he had the merseyside double on at William Hill - W*nker

Just seen on the back of the News Arry is saying 'if only we still had the Yak'. yes well whose fault is that? Who f*d off "up the road", followed by a general exodus of some of our better players, including the Yak?

pompey were poor but lets judge at the end of the season but i wolud still have rather watch this team than the sh**e we used to watch many years ago
