Another game changed for TV

The TV executives have once again flexed there muscles to get a game changed for TV coverage - this time it is setanta sports who have taken up our away game at West Ham.

We were scheduled to face West Ham on Saturday 5th April, with a 3pm kick off but this has now been moved to Monday 7th for live coverage on the box.

This decision has been met with even more anger than the usual when a game is moved, as it is another example of the fact that you cannot really plan to go to virtually any game anymore as you never know what might happen as far as fixture changes go - so booking flights, trains, hotels and so on in advance is considered too risky now...

This latest change means that we currently have only 1 Saturday 3pm kick off in April now, with this game being Newcastle at Fratton on the 12th, West Ham is now Monday 7th on setanta sports, Man City Sunday 20th and Blackburn Sunday 27th, with these games both live on sky sports.

and setanta as well - they are shocking and thieving gypsie ********s. Rug - there's another article in this around the decision to break up sky's monopoly and how it has actually left the consumer in a worse not better place!
WalshWasGod
not sure about your first few lines, but i see what you are getting at... go for it WalshWasGod, knock something together, forward it to me and i will publish on your behalf...

The price of fame... Of course if we stuuf the mancs in the cup, then this game will be moved for the semi at Wembley!
storagematt
as i cant go to many away games, this news is really good for me, as iv only failed to see a few away games due to the tv, and not many away games this season will be missed either. im pleased :)
jbaker
Well as it said in last Sunday's Toast about playing on February 29th - how long will we be playing on Saturdays at 3pm? The answer was not long!!
eastneydave
our first home 3pm was reading, in october!
jbaker
easier said than done i know, but i say play all games on saturday at 3pm - and some midweek - as it is meant to, but change the 'rules' and allow all games to be broadcast on pay tv channels, or club channels, sky sports, setanta or whatever, if people want to go they will go, if they would rather watch on tv they will - the main thing i dont like is the constant changing of schedules...
pompeyrug
Only our second Setanta game - first one West Ham at home!!
eastneydave
Football sold its soul years ago and we, the fans, are paying the price. We fans are all at the bottom of the football food chain and let no-one tell you different.
NinjaTim
Forget the fixture list an buy the Radio Times.
eastneydave
a Monday night kick off? a kick in the balls for a travelling fan then!
merlin
I was going to go to this one, that means a day off work now, so it looks like the telly again, I only make a few away games a season, when they change it for telly it hacks me off
paultsmouth
I thunk you've said it all fellas but the bottom line is that the TV companies know we'll either go or atch.. how can we not ! The Devil in some respects is our friend... he moves our games and hacks us off, but gives us money in return .... Where would we (and other clubs be) without the revenue from TV?... Some would argue 'In a much better position'..me I'm not so sure

its worth reading this post fella... i have been emailed by a west ham fan who has explained why the game has been moved from the saturday - the fact that it is now on tv is a by product...
'Hi Pompey fan, the reason our (West Ham's) match has been moved from Saturday the 5th of April, is that the 'District Line' (the only line serving Upton Park) is closed that weekend for engineering work. The fact that Setanta now have it as a Monday kick off is is more down to serendipity than their being instrumental in moving the game'.
pompeyrug
Well if the District Line is closed that is a different story but why didn't it come out that way?
eastneydave
Dont know why everone is blaming TV , this game was already called off because of major engineering works on the underground that weekend. Some people just love a whinge and I bet the majority dont go to away games and probably not home either . A bit like the to$$ers who phone the Quay after the game and make comments re game / players etc and when asked if they were at the game , say " no I listened to it on the radio "

well welcome Mike657, ive not seen you on here before - if you did read some of the comments you will see that i did say that was the case... if i had been made aware of this from the off i would have said in what i wrote... but come on lets be honest how many games are 'changed to suit tv'...
pompeyrug
as for 'not going to games' believe it or not not everyone can afford this, as hard as it might be to believe - nor do we all live in pompey anymore - or even did when we did do this week in week out, i would love to go home and away like i used to, but that would leave me pretty much 'living out of a suitcase' with all the travelling i would have to do - i have never learned to drive you see - for the vast majority of a season, and that is without the costs involved, not forgetting the 'practicality of it'... at the end of the day all games are 'away' for me, home or away and will probably usually cost me the best part of £100 per game, minimum... my argument, even when it was cheaper, and i could afford it more - and i am getting my season ticket back again next season - and was going all the time was 'just because you go to home and away games it doesnt make you any more of a fan, therefore doesnt give you any less of an opinion or right to have your say'... that said i will agree you do get some complete muppets calling in the quay sometimes...
pompeyrug
sorry for the 'rant', but when there is a thought, or a hint of a thought that because people dont go to games - home or away - they have less right to 'moan' or have a say, or maybe are 'lesser fans' it winds me up...
pompeyrug
What a load of Bollox , this game was called of by West Sham due to major engineering works on the London Underground . Some people just love a good whinge , and probably dont go to away games and probably not even home ones either , the same people who ring the Quay after a game to comment on the game / result / players and when asked if they were at the game say no I listened to it on the radio !!
Mike657
basically i say the same back to you mike, if you want to be a part of this site great, if you just want to come here spouting the same crap over and over - without looking into points that are made - sorry to be blunt but personally i know i dont want people like that here... yepm share opinions - and rightly we will not always agree - by all means but not in the way you are... were not all as perfect as you, i bet you dont go to all home and away games anyway... it might just be a coincidence but im also not liking the '657' reference...
