'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lets focus on Sunderland now...

After the FA cup draw earlier this week a lot of focus has shifted towards that meeting with United at Old Trafford, but we cannot forget we have two crucial league games ahead of before that, starting against Sunderland at Fratton this weekend...

Harry Redknapp has spoken about this game on the Pompey site and much as he says this will not be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination but with respect it is one we should be looking to win: 'I like Roy and I think he's done a really good job there. He talks a lot of sense and I think he's got a big future ahead of him.

'I think they'll stay up this season. Their home record has been fantastic and they've played okay away from home.

'I think they've been unlucky on a few occasions. I watched them play at West Ham when they were fantastic and unlucky to lose.

'It will be a tough match for us but we're confident of picking up the three points'.

Remember Sunderland are looking to do the double over us, something that not even the 'big 4' can boast - it is essential that we do not let this happen, we cannot afford a slip up here as if we are realistically aiming for a European place via the league 3 points is a must, anything less at this stage of the season just will not be good enough.

After Sunderland we go to Goodison Park to face Everton, so a point from that would then be the minimum aim, so 4 points minimum from the next couple of games ahead of the cup game with United will set us up very nicely for that tie.

If you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this game with Sunderland do it here.

A must win... Come on lads this can make or break the season!
imazav
it will certainly break it i feel if we dont win tbh...

Just what I have been thinking, I've been getting carried away over this cup tie, but we must focus on the match ahead, we must get revenge on Sunderland for beating us at the Stadium of Light.
tracyc
forget the cup tie - we're out of that! the league's where it's at, home win please
WalshWasGod
Yes just in case we don't get a major miracle at OT, we have the chance of a uefa spot via the league. After nothing short of a pathetic performance at the stadium of ********, we need to win. Nothing else matters, just a win.
storagematt
The next three matches represent our total season. The repercussions either way will be immense.

we really need to do well in the league, as theres a very good chance that it wont be utd-chelsea final, so that means thats one euro place gone, and if spurs upset chelski in cc final, then we need to finish 5th. given these circumstances, we could come 6th and not make europe. then harry will pay for not applying to intertoto. in conclusion, we need/should win every home game left, and just attack the away games like before
jbaker
3pts is a must from this game and will push us on for the rest of the season
knocker
Well said Jay and Knocker I agree too - Three points is a must but it aint gonna be an easy game - Sunderland will come and shut up shop hoping for a draw... We'll need to break them down just like we didn't do at Preston.. !! Luckily Richardson probably won''t be playing so he'll not be able to run the show like he did up there... all we want now is for scummer Jones to get crocked then that's any threat they have nullified.... we'll still need to score though ... Let's hope Jermain is fully rested (from what I don't know) and raring to go...
Chix
There nickname is the 'black cats' all I said was the 'stadium of pu55ies'?!?!?!

2 points on the road from 13 starts so far for Sunderland, surely they ain't going to more than double it ?
pompeygray
We could "luck it" again by about 4-1 to Pompey. All lucky goals, just ask a Sunderland supporter they will tell you so after the match. By the way last time I gave a 4-1 scoreline it was right, except we lost.
frattonaussie
lets hope you are right this time... we'll beat sunderland this weekend, we have to...
pompeyrug
i think we will rug but it wont be a comfortable win by any strecth of the imagination
