Harry says James is going nowhere

Harry Redknapp has spoken out against the Sunday 'reports' that were 'linking' David James with a summer move to Spurs, also rubbishing the thoughts that he would be out of contract this summer when speaking to sky sports: 'I saw something about him going to Spurs in the summer, as he is out of contract.

'I don't know where that one has come from. He only signed a new contract with us last year and he will be with us for a long time yet'.

With Pompey you cannot help be a little cynical a times as what is said and what really happens can be different things but I think it is safe to say that we know it really would be ludicrous for us to lose James anytime soon, so this news will not only please each and every Pompey fan, it should also please Spurs fans as the vast majority did not want him anyway... there is no accounting for taste is there :-)

Redknapp went on to also once again back James to be England's no.1 up to and including the 2010 world cup finals: 'there's no reason why he can't make the World Cup in 2010 because he will play on for a long time yet.

'He's such a perfectionist and is a great trainer. He is absolutely dedicated and he is in such great condition'.

The plaudits just keep growing for James don't they - and rightly so.

Pompey's, England's, the premier leagues and according to Jamie Redknapp quite possibly the worlds best at this point in time is a far cry from his 'calamity James' tag isn't it - even though some are still blinkered to this view sadly...

Of course there'll be interest in him - he's fantastic! But he's going nowhere (except the world cup finals).

Fantastic news we have already got him another contract, phew. Desperately trying to ignore the first comment here.

well you can desperately try to ignore it butt it's my opinion P4M. I am saying that Hollwood Robinson is s h 1 t but so is James.. so no deliberate attempt to wind anyone up - even if James is better than Hollywood it's like saying a Daihatsu is better than a Robin Reliant.. Big Deal.

Football is all about opinions but Tailor, you're basing your opinion of James on the rare blunder of years ago, not current and recent form. Even the great Gordon Banks made the odd mistake, as did Bonnetti, Stepney, Jennings, Wilson, Zoff, Schmeichal, Shilton, Seaman, Southall etc etc....it comes with the territory. There simply isn't a better keeper in the Premier League at the moment. Oh, and the Spurs talk? Another case of crap Sunday papers and lazy journalists who can't report the news so try and make it up instead....t055ers!

as for the thoughts jamo is crap - the polite way of putting it :-) all i can say again is it is just such a shame that some people cant look past those mistakes, which in fairness mainly came a good few years ago - and probably came about as he was thrust into what was a poor liverpool side on the whole much too soon?

The Tailor: Why change the habit of a lifetime? You swapped crap owners for crap owners, crap managers for crap managers and crap players for crap players. Let’s face it, Slurs are the most underperforming team in the entire 4 divisions so nothing has changed there either. Besides, I think you should keep Robinson, he’s one of your better players… s*******.

so storage matt - I don't share your opinion so I am stupid - typical response from someone without the intellect to get his point across? The fact is James is an average keeper at the very best. There is a dearth of GK talent out there and that is why you think james is great. Good for you, you can keep him. ChrisW - Ramos is a far better manager than 'Arry (though 'Arry is good). Ramos has a proven track record and has won 5 trophies in 15 months prior to joining Spurs and 'Arry has done what exactly? Yeah, we have crap players and that is why you continue to buy them - Mendes, Davis, Pamarot, Defoe.. You are a dreamer who knows nothing about football. If you are going to make comments make them sensible.

Tailor - so what? You don't want Jamo - great, we do, we love him and we're keeping him. You're a Spurs fan, so you think they are better - you would. Personally I don't care. Why are you coming onto our site and having a go at Pompey anyway?

err tracyc - who is having a go at Pompey? All I said was David James was rubbish.. It's my opinion - that is what these sites are all about - opinions. I said 'Arry was a good manager, I also said Pompey were a decent side.. what more do you want - flowers and chocolates?

Tailor: you talk about making sensible comments yet you don't lead by example - you can't win the footballing arguments so you try and make it personal - no need for comments of that nature the issues should speak for themselves. HR turned down the manager’s job at WHL choosing to stay somewhere with potential and probably the country's best fan base. As stated earlier you have had a series of crap managers and just because you’ve won a few games [at long last], you think Ramos is the next messiah. Long term the only thing he is going to deliver is Tapas at half time… Ole..!

Very good Chrisw. The fact is I make valid points in my post and you don't. The fact is that Pompey buy lots of our players - so your point that we have crap player is just plain silly - that would mean you are crap then.. 'Arry didn't turn the job down - he was never offered it and you believe what you want in your sunshine world.. Ramos is a fantastic manager and you know it. Let's be clear here - you the one who started slating Spurs.. All I has said is that I didn't rate james - cue your ridiculous comments with the word crap making up half the post - great vocab and really high level debate..

Who cares you don't want him and we do, everyone is happy. Spurs are a good club with some good players who have not been playing to the level they should have. Ramos has come in and you are doing better. However the clubs fighting for Europe now has go a lot closer. Clubs are improving all the time and the top ten as it stands are far better than the bottom half which can be seen by the points difference. Rather than arguing who is a better team why not just see how the season plays and then review it?

What occurs to me is that EVERY minute of every game is now televised somewhere. The upshot of this is that so much of our opinion is based on what we see on the box and in the media. The coverage is beyond saturation point to the extent that any mistake or on-field indescretion that any player makes is accentuated and magnified. "Great" players of the 60's, 70's and 80's didn't undergo such scrutiny - thus their reputations were less vulnerable. The written media too, had a far less vitriolic approach to reporting on football. So many times I've watched a live game and seen so much of the work a player does off the ball - even a keeper, in terms of positioning and following the play - this simply doesn't come across on the telly. So Tailor, how many times have you watched James play live this season or is your rationale just based on heresay and second-hand opinions?

The Pompey back 5 has been largely good the past 2 seasons, and James has been an important part of that. I dont think you lot should be concerned about how the spuds rate your players - after rating Robbo for so many seasons now, you can understand if their judgment on goal keepers is skewed.
