'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kanu talk nothing but rubbish

Harry Redknapp has told The News that the talk 'linking' Kanu with a move to Australia as a 'load of cobblers': 'I think talk of Australia is just a lot of cobblers, though.

'I think he wants to stay here. The lad seems to be happy and I don't want him to go anywhere, he's been terrific for me.

'He's out of contract at the end of the year. But I want him to stay here - and I think he wants to stay.'

With Kanu only needing to play a couple more games to earn his new contract, unless we can somehow 'break' this deal then I do not think there is much Redknapp has to worry about to be honest...

Despite saying that he is not wanting Kanu to leave Redknapp did admit that he would not stand in his way if he did want to go: 'I wouldn't stand in Kanu's way, not if he wants to go. It's like everything, if he wanted to leave us you can't force him not to.

'You can't work like that.

'If he wanted to go I could not stop him, I could not keep him here. I've never done that. You don't want unhappy players.

As said, with the his extension about to kick in any minute now it would appear that the only way this deal could now be broken is if Kanu himself decides not to honour this agreement... and after all the fuss he kicked up to get a 2 year contract in the first place, after agreeing the compromise he virtually has this now anyway, so I cannot see him now turning this down - can you?

Shouldn't that have been "load of cobbers?"

I'm in two minds about Kanu, he's not long for the EPL that's for sure but as it stands we need him given our average height is down a couple of inches following the introduction of LD, JD and MB - but if plans go ahead for a 7 man bench then it makes sense to keep him for when we play the likes of Bolton. In saying that not sure I can endure another season of those damn caps and knee hugging jeans.

When I read the headline I thought Kanu was off to Northampton!! Too good to play for a club that does not exist.
eastneydave
nice on Dave, took me a few seconds...

Rug in your write up, you state "HR" does not want to keep unhappy players. I am not sure he wants to keep "happy players", ask Benji.

its not 'all' down to 'arry tho as to who comes and goes is it - so altho maybe 'arry could have said 'i ant benji to stay' i dont think it is fair to lay the blame entirely at him feet... we all know that 'arry has always wanted defoe, when the chance came for him to get him he was bound to agree to a sacrifice, even if that sacrifice meant losing benji - i think this is something that we just have to accept now and move on from...

God bless Defoe, he is quality and will score the goals we need, Benjy has moved on boys get over it, the new era sees Harry wanting to use Defoe, Diarra, Diop and Muntari. O'Neill, Taylor and Benjy have gone the next chapter is about to be written, hold tight.

I said my piece on this in a previous article. As HR said "a load of cobblers".

He should still be plying his trade in England. The 'A' League here is nothing to write home about, personally I have never been to one, but watching the odd game on TV reminds me of the Old 4th division.

Agreed Pompeygray.I went to one game and it was about as exciting as the Brighton Ladies Bowls in the UK.
frattonaussie
to be fair ladies bowls can get quite interesting if the wind whips up..

I thought made me smile Chris :)... As for Kanu.. well I won't go there but I smiled when I misread the headline... I thought it said .. KANU - NOTHING BUT RUBBISH... I was just gonna respond with a 'yep !'
