'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aussies keen on Kanu?

Kanu is reportedly interesting Australian club Gold Coast Galaxy.

The newly formed club have close ties with David Beckham's American club LA Galaxy, and are set to join the Australian A league with it 'said' they would like to have Kanu on board...

Kanu's legal representative Samuel Okoronkwo is not ruling out such a move, but the priority appears to be a stay with Pompey: 'Kanu wants to play football. We would discuss Australia if things were not to work out at Portsmouth'.

I like Kanu and he does still have that bit of magic about him but if I were totally honest I think that I would be happier if he did move on - but not until the end of the season... so if he can play his part with us until then and then move on then this would probably suit all involved?

With a contract extension about to kick in, if this does it would require him to agree not to extend this, which maybe he would not do - but as said he wants to play and I am not sure he would play much next season?

Current circumstances, if the extra years contract kicks in, would mean us having to buy him out. So if we play him, it will cost us next season whether we want him or not. A good one for "HR" to sort out.

You wouldn't blame him if he wanted to end his career in the States or in Oz.

Let him sign the contract extension and then they can buy him off us for the cheap price of £6m. Everyone’s a winner ;)

If he wants to move on I don't have a problem with it, we've got Defoe now, and we have also lost a few other players that I was a lot sorrier about recently. Kanu has done us well, but he is in the twilight of his career now and it wouldn't be the end of the world for us if his future was elsewhere.

Never been a huge fan of Kanu, but he has done a good job and have to thank him for that.... But if we did lose him would need someone else in that could hold the ball up.

if he wants to go then i reckon we would surely be able to arrange something with him that allows him to see out the season here and then move on in the summer? all this without the extension kicking in?

he has some magic moments, but unfortunately he's extremely slow, so in general if he does play id perhaps be happier to see him come on for the last 20 mins of games? im not sure whether this is slightly mean, or just the way it is.

Just heard this this morning on Sydney Radio. Seems he is starting in the 'A' League over here, but the season is just coming to a close so he should remain with Pompey until the end of the English season.

Ok now to put the whole story in perspective. Gold Coast Galaxy would be my local team if there was such a team. There has been a name Gold Coast Galaxy registered but that is all. They have applied to field a team in the Australian A league but , although they have strong support, nothing has been officially approved. If or when the team is approved the stadium, which is built but in poor condition, has to be upgraded and repaired. Then a team has to be gathered together. It is unlikely that that can happen by the start of next season. If they go into it with an under prepared ,2nd rate team they will fail very quickly as the Gold Coast has a record of being very hard on underachievers in all sports. As far as the connection with the L A Galaxy is concerned. Where "close connection" comes from I don't know. Gold Coast Galaxy had to get L A Galaxy's permission to use the name Galaxy as it is registered with them worldwide. L A Galaxy has said they would consider playing on the Gold Coast in the future. That is the only "close connection" that I am aware of. Kanu, whilst past being an EPL top player, would be a good signing for any Australian team and he wouldn't have to run to fast either. I think Kanu's agent is clutching at straws to try to get a deal for Kanu with Pompey as I don't think he gets anything if Kanu goes as coach of Ghana.

well kanu coaching 'ghana' is news to me too ;-) nigeria perhaps :-) as for the 'close connections' i wouldnt have a clue, i dont even know who gold coast galaxy are - you just play the card you are dealt dont you... tbh i dont think kanu's agent needs to clutch to much does he as kanu only needs another 2 games i think doesnt he then he has reached his new contract anyway?

sorry rug.. nigeria. No one knows who the Gold Coast Galaxy are so how they suddenly become world famous and closely tied to David Beckham and the LA Galaxy is a great leap by Kanu's agent or a reporter. As I said I live there and follow local football (soccer) and I couldn't tell you who the likely manager would be or name even one player. Oh, Posh Beckham was reportedly sighted on the local beach but it turned out to be a nurse carrying a plastic skeleton on her way home.

Re Kanu's contract. I have just read a quote from Kanu's agent who say's that although he may get offered a contract, the terms have still to be agreed on and even if the contract is offered they might not be acceptable to Kanu. I would have thought that the same terms as the last contract would apply but it seems not.

seems that when players are reaching the end of there career (due to age) they seem to come to australia, for example craig moore, should be interesting if Kanu comes to Australia i cant see it happening though
