6th at the end of the month?

6th at the end of the month?

Pompey will be sitting in 6th place in the league when the month ends! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from auntwallop's poll are thoughts that I do not quite agree with to be honest.

The way the league table currently looks, a win over Sunderland with results going our way could see us into 6th, but I would think even with a win - which we must be looking for if we seriously want to get a uefa cup place, or even a champions league place - the best we could get is 7th, but this will still keep us right in the hunt.

'On paper' we have one of the 'easiest' run ins so we really must be fancying our chances of a top 6 finish, although it is still not something that I am expecting I seriously think that we have a chance at the champions league place you know fellas - we just need to find a real run of form, if we have a run like earlier in the season the world will be our lobster!

So, for now I would 'settle' for 7th come the end of the month, this will set us up nicely and this is the place I feel we will be in...

What the poll asked - Where do you think Pompey will be in the table come the end of February?

How you voted - Sixth 34%, Seventh 29%, Fifth 17%, Eighth 12%, Ninth 4%, Tenth 4%

Current Poll - Benjani was 'the darling of Fratton Park', so we are now looking for a new one...

So, who is going to take up Benji's mantle and become the new darling of Fratton Park - this is what Chix wants to know with this - 'with Benjani now gone, who will become the new darling of Fratton Park...' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

The run in for Pompey is heaped with irony... Our home run-in looks a cinch whereas the away fixtures look more difficult with us having to play many of the teams around us... But given we no longer have a natural front man for 4-5-1, I reckon our early season form will be reversed with us winning most of our homes games using 4-4-2 and alas struggling away..., with the same 4-4-2 ... unless of course Harry works some magic during training.

Before I vote, is the girl in row EE rug in drag? I didn't see the survey on where will will end up the month. I think 7th and 6th by season end or 5th if the other clubs results favour us. ChrisW , I disagree that we have no natural front man. It depends on the style of play you want. I you want someone to hold the ball up and then pass we still have Kanu but that style is boring even if it gets the points. If you want "in your face" running play we have Baros, Defoe and Utaka with Nugent quite capable of following them forward. The rest of our midfield and defence should be capable enough of holding the opposition without having rely on strikers to do the job for them. The only thing that could bring us down is lack of matches they all have together as a team so they mould as one.

Frattonaussie, what I said is we don't have a natural front man for 4-5-1, Kanu is the only one capable of making 4-5-1 work and that assumes we play to him rather than him having to go fetch like Benjani did - in any case, watching him week in week and he looks past it and needs to rest for a minute or so following any form of exertion - great perhaps when you play to his feet every 5 minutes, but not so good if you are pumping balls in every minute or so...

Last season we beat Man U & 2 days later lost at Watford. No doubt we will do something similar this season. I guess we will finish on about 60pts. (a new poll) A brilliant finish may yield 6 more and an average finish 6 less. Though we have some of the lesser teams to play, they are the ones fighting for their lives & we know what that means. As we play on grass & not paper expect the unexpected.

I don't know - playing on paper has its merits. At least Harry couldn't complain that we don't play down the line and he'd also save himself a load of time as he could write his own headlines during the match - not sure the pitch would hold up during the rain tho..

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

Pitfalls of Sheffield Wednesday loanee returning

As Catlin put it 'the gamble' of aiming sign Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lavery has to be one Pompey fans understand. It isn't as cut and dried as saying 'he's a free agent' sign him!

Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!

Will pair stay at Fratton?

It's been made (more than once) clear by Catlin Pompey want Davies & Hollands to stay. Both (also more than once) have said they want to this - deals have to be right for all concerned.
